Doing your first property search

How search works on the map, what to do if the pin lands in the wrong place, and what a search costs.

Type an address, watch the pin land

Search starts on the map, not a text list. Type an address into the search box at findproperly.co.za/search and a pin drops where Google thinks the property is.

Move the pin if it’s wrong

Google’s geocoding is usually right, but not always — sometimes the pin lands on the wrong side of the road, or a few doors off. Drag it to where the property actually stands. The deeds search follows wherever the pin sits, not the address you typed, so getting the pin right matters more than the spelling.

Choose a purpose, then pull the report

Before you pull a report, you’ll choose why you’re fetching it — a listing appraisal, buyer due diligence, and so on. It’s a compliance record the data agreement requires for every search, not product friction, and findproperly remembers your last choice: the dropdown pre-fills next time, so it’s one click on your first search and often none after that.

Pulling a report costs one credit, and you’ll see that stated before you press the button. A search that turns up nothing, needs picking from a list, or fails outright doesn’t spend it.

If you’d rather ask than search

If you see a Chat item in the sidebar, it opens a chat window where you can ask a question in plain language instead of reading through the map yourself.

Next: start a search at findproperly.co.za/search.
