When a credit comes back automatically
Which search outcomes never spend a credit, and which one holds one until it's done.

The rule
You only spend a credit for a report you actually get. Search an address and it comes back not found, ambiguous, or failed, and nothing is taken from your balance — the credit is returned automatically, the moment the search resolves.
Not found, ambiguous, failed
Not found — the deeds office has no record at that address.
Ambiguous — more than one property could match, so you’re asked to pick.
Failed — the search itself broke before it could return anything.
None of these three costs you a report.
Pending is different
A search still in progress holds one credit while WinDeed works on it. That’s not a charge — it’s a hold, released back to you the instant the search lands as one of the outcomes above, or handed over as a finished report if it succeeds.
Why it works this way
A report is fetched live from the deeds office at the moment you buy it. WinDeed only bills us when a report actually resolves, so anything else genuinely costs your workspace nothing, and the credit says so.
Next: see your workspace’s balance at findproperly.co.za/billing.
